Something to think about!

"It should be no surprise that when rich men take control of the government, they pass laws that are favorable to themselves. The surprise is that those who are not rich vote for such people, even though they should know from bitter experience that the rich will continue to rip off the rest of us."
Andrew Greeley (Chicago Sun-Times, February 18, 2001)

The problem is not "rich men making laws". The problem is "man making laws". When you create an office with so much power, there naturally is going to be contest and every corrupt element in society will vie for that position. So this office automatically attracts the rich.

The solution is to take the legislative authority away from the government.

I had our leaders in mind when I read this quote, and posted it on my blog. And the quote also refers to the power of corporations and their self-interest when they heavily support campaigns/causes that are of their interest. It's a huge reality.

But yes, the problem's root is traced back to man-making laws. But the surprise remains that achay bhalay educated log, knowing what those in power are doing, would still go out and vote for them.

They do indeed worm their way into government through fraud and what not. But there is a sad majority of educated people who would still vote for the corrupt, knowingly, and willingly.

That's the saddest aspect of our society.

Thanks both for dropping by!
