Lessons of the day!

Today was a kind of day, that begs to be forgotten. The good part is, that I went to the Quran class :). And the bad part is, that the teacher seemed disappointed with the lack of consistent attendance :(..

*sees pointed fingers towards her*.. she also mentioned something on the lines of that this is just once a week. There is no excuse for leaving it.

One useful info I learned from today's lesson, which I want to share is the connection between some verses of Surah Baqarah.

99. And indeed We have sent down to you manifest Ayat (these Verses of the Qur'an which inform in detail about the news of the Jews and their secret intentions, etc.), and none disbelieve in them but Fasiqun (those who rebel against Allah's Command).

100. Is it not (the case) that every time they make a covenant, some party among them throw it aside? Nay! the truth is most of them believe not.

101. And when there came to them a Messenger from Allah (i.e. Muhammad Peace be upon him ) confirming what was with them, a party of those who were given the Scripture threw away the Book of Allah behind their backs as if they did not know!

102. They followed what the Shayatin (devils) gave out (falsely of the magic) in the lifetime of Sulaiman (Solomon). Sulaiman did not disbelieve, but the Shayatin (devils) disbelieved, teaching men magic and such things that came down at Babylon to the two angels, Harut and Marut, but neither of these two (angels) taught anyone (such things) till they had said, "We are only for trial, so disbelieve not (by learning this magic from us)." And from these (angels) people learn that by which they cause separation between man and his wife, but they could not thus harm anyone except by Allah's Leave. And they learn that which harms them and profits them not. And indeed they knew that the buyers of it (magic) would have no share in the Hereafter. And how bad indeed was that for which they sold their ownselves, if they but knew.

Whenever I read these, I always wondered, how come Hazrat Sulaiman's time and magic is being mentioned here.. apparently it seems to be out of the blue. The fact is that the verses above verse 102, LEAD to this verse. How?

The above verses talk about the Jews. But since I am me, the lesson is for ME. (That's the first principle).

Secondly, whoever rejects the covenant made with Allah (we have made one too), and throws the Book (Quran in our case) on the back burner, then the ultimate path to follow would be of one's own whims and desires - of shortcuts and talismans, and THIS leads to magic..

The magic that was practiced at the time of Sulaiman AS, when the people there started following the devils and their practices. Today, in this day and age, in the age of advanced technology and all the education in the world, we're still very much there. We too, believe in shortcuts and devise ways and means to get to our worldly goals. If those means coincide with Allah's Wishes, well and good. If they don't... then so be it.

This is the attitude that needs to change. And this can only be changed when the Holy Quran takes the central role in our lives, not to be brought down from the topmost shelf on occasions (like funerals, or doing a wazeefa), but to be made a part of daily life, daily routine.

May Allah Enable me to follow this and then to everybody else as well. Ameen.

Yes I joined it a long time ago (December 2010 to be precise) and this was attended after lots of breaks :(

Insha Allah you'll do very well in exams :). I'm always a lil in awe of medical students. I mean, I can't imagine studying this much (and so many subjects).

Best of luck :)
